Staff Data Engineer
The opportunity
We’re looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join Attest and help evolve our data platform as we scale.
In this role, you’ll contribute to the long-term direction of Data Engineering, shaping how we ingest, model, serve and govern data across the business and product. You’ll work on high-impact initiatives that strengthen reliability, improve trust in our data, and enable faster, more confident decision-making. You will build foundations that improve reliability, trust in our data, and time-to-insight as we scale.
You’ll be part of the Data Engineering squad, working closely with Data Science and partnering with Platform (infrastructure and security). You’ll also collaborate across Engineering and the wider business to streamline how data questions are answered, including clearer self-serve pathways to trusted data with the right governance in place.
Tech Stack
Our current data platform is AWS-first (with some GCP) and built around Python, Dagster, dbt, and a cloud data warehouse (currently Redshift). It runs on Kubernetes, with infrastructure defined in Terraform, supported by tooling for ingestion, data quality, observability, and BI/serving.
Salary
We are able to offer between £110–125K depending on experience.
In person and remote working balance
We embrace a flexible hybrid work model. While we don't mandate specific office days, we ask Attesters to work on-site 2 days per week. This approach allows us to collaborate in person, while ensuring enough time remotely for deep, focussed work.
What you’ll be doing
Set the direction of Data Engineering, helping build foundations that scale with the company and product.
Deliver across the data lifecycle: ingestion, transformation and modelling, serving, and ensuring data is accessible and usable.
Build and improve trusted, self-serve data capabilities for internal teams and product use cases, with clear ownership and governance.
Partner with Data Science and Platform, and collaborate across Engineering and the wider business to deliver secure, well-operated data systems.
Reduce operational overhead and improve maintainability and reliability by strengthening standards, simplifying patterns and reducing operational overhead.
Make thoughtful architecture and tooling decisions that balance speed, reliability, cost, data quality and access controls.
Serve as a go-to partner for Data Engineering queries, supporting teams across the business in navigating data-related questions and decisions.
Build strong working relationships across functions, ensuring data initiatives are aligned with business priorities and clearly understood.
What’s in it for you
Meaningful influence over the future of our data platform.
High-impact work that directly supports product development and business decision-making.
The opportunity to work at the intersection of Data Engineering and applied AI.
A collaborative, cross-functional environment with close partnership across Data Science, Platform and Engineering.
A lightweight, low-bureaucracy delivery model (sprints/kanban blend) focused on outcomes, not micromanagement.
What you’ll bring…
Experience building and operating data platforms in cloud environments.
Strong foundations in data modelling, transformation and orchestration.
Experience working across teams to deliver well-governed, reliable data systems.
A pragmatic approach to architecture decisions, balancing long-term thinking with delivery needs.
An interest in improving data quality, discoverability and usability across an organisation.
The ability to act as a trusted point of contact for Data Engineering topics, offering guidance and clarity across teams.
Experience building strong cross-functional relationships and collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Confidence explaining technical concepts in accessible ways, helping others understand trade-offs, constraints and best practices.
We value diverse experiences and perspectives, especially in an era of non-linear careers and evolving technology. If you’re excited by building scalable, trusted data foundations and shaping how data enables confident, AI-driven decision-making, we’d love to hear from you — even if you don’t meet every requirement listed above!
